Using Crude Corrective Movements to Learn Accurate Motor Programs for Reaching
نویسندگان
چکیده
A computational model that uses crude corrective movements to learn accurate reaching programs is presented. The model learns a feed-forward motor program in the form of pulse-step commands which drive a dynamic, 2 DOF, planar arm. The arm is actuated by two pairs of opposing muscles, which drive the shoulder and elbow joints. The model is able to learn motor programs that accurately bring the arm to the target, while producing in many cases bell-shaped tangential velocity prooles.

Rapid Visuomotor Corrective Responses during Transport of Hand-Held Objects Incorporate Novel Object Dynamics.
Numerous studies have shown that people are adept at learning novel object dynamics, linking applied force and motion, when performing reaching movements with hand-held objects. Here we investigated whether the control of rapid corrective arm responses, elicited in response to visual perturbations, has access to such newly acquired knowledge of object dynamics. Participants first learned to mak...

When infants begin to perform goal-directed reaching between approximately 4 and 5 months-of-age, the kinematics of their reaches show multiple accelerations and decelerations of the hand, which appear to reeect a correcting series of submovements. Although each sub-movement is an inaccurate correction, the sequence of submovements is often successful in reaching the target. By what process doe...
متن کاملLearning fast accurate movements requires intact frontostriatal circuits
The basal ganglia are known to play a crucial role in movement execution, but their importance for motor skill learning remains unclear. Obstacles to our understanding include the lack of a universally accepted definition of motor skill learning (definition confound), and difficulties in distinguishing learning deficits from execution impairments (performance confound). We studied how healthy s...
متن کاملThe impact of aging on the spatial accuracy of quick corrective arm movements in response to sudden target displacement during reaching
Age-related declines in visuomotor processing speed can have a large impact on motor performance in elderly individuals. Contrary to previous findings, however, recent studies revealed that elderly individuals are able to quickly react to displacement of a visual target during reaching. Here, we investigated the influence of aging on quick, corrective responses to perturbations during reaching ...
متن کاملStudy of the Persistence Effect of two Exercises Controlling the Scapula and Corrective Movements on Neck Pain and Angle of Head in Males with forward Head
Introduction: The scapula movement control disorder is an important factor in the incidence of upper limb abnormalities that influences sensory-motor control. There is a dearth of research on the persistence effects of training exercises. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the persistence effects (after six months) of two exercises controlling the scapula and corrective movemen...
